• Middle Class Tax Cuts- Brett believes the middle class is at the core of what makes America the greatest country on Earth.  We can amend the tax code in simple ways to give hard working Americans a chance to get ahead.
  • Campaign Finance Reform– Brett believes we must overturn Citizen’s United, a Supreme Court decision that continues to allow big corporations and billionaires to spend unlimited amounts of money in politics. Freedom of speech is one of our most important civil liberties; but affording money the same protections as speech is destroying American’s belief that our political system actually works. We must work harder to regulate money in politics and insist on complete transparency in campaign financing.
  • Gun Control-Brett supports the second amendment and firmly believes that law-abiding citizens that do not have a history of mental illness should be able to exercise their second amendment rights. However, gun violence in America is out of hand and completely unacceptable. The status quo is obviously not working. We must take action to stop guns from falling into the hands of violent criminals, terrorists, or the mentally ill.  We have to work to strengthen background checks and focus more attention on gun shows and Internet sales.
  • Debt-free College- Education is the cornerstone of our democracy. Though more people are getting a higher education than ever before, their hard work is being rewarded with more student loan debt than ever before. Brett is passionate about higher education. He is a part-time professor at a public university. Brett believes we must amend the tax code to make it easier for middle class Americans to pay back student loans and take serious steps toward making higher education affordable for all.
  • Environment/Climate Change-Climate change is real. There’s no denying it. Brett considers this to be one of the largest threats facing our country and world today. Solar. Wind. Geothermal energy. We need to invest more in technology to harness these renewable and clean sources of energy to harmoniously power our world for centuries to come. America’s focus and leadership in this arena will also create high paying jobs, grow our economy, and make our country more secure by eliminating our dependence foreign oil.
  • Veterans-We cannot send young men and women into war if we are not going to show continuous dedication to help them adjust to life at home again when they return.  We must fully fund and expand the VA and give particular focus on improving mental health services for our veterans.
  • LBGT Equality-Brett has always been a very strong supporter of same-sex marriage and equality for all regardless of their sexual orientation.
  • Women’s Rights- We have to close the pay gap.  It is unacceptable that in 2016, this continues to be an issue.  Brett is also a strong believer in protecting women’s reproductive rights as well as Planned Parenthood.  Personal health decisions should be made by a woman with the guidance of her doctor, not by politicians.
  • Creating and Protecting Jobs/Unions-Brett strongly supports keeping jobs in our communities.   He believes privatizing city and state services reduces the quality of services received as well as reduces the amount of middle class jobs available to Americans. The ability to successfully move goods throughout Southern California is necessary for a stable and prosperous economy. It is crucial that we continue to invest in our infrastructure and transportation.
  • Immigration-Immigration reform is a must.  While we do have to strengthen our borders, we also must have a pathway to citizenship for those already here that focuses on keeping families together.
  • Mental Health/Drug Abuse/Homelessness- There is not enough focus on mental health in this country. It can take months for someone to even obtain an appointment with a mental health care professional. Focusing on mental health will help keep people off the streets, help reduce numbers in overcrowded jails, reduce gun violence, and help reduce the number of people addicted to drugs. Mental health services must be fully funded and easily available.
  • Income Inequality- We cannot tolerate an economy that allows a person to work full time and still live in poverty. Brett supports raising the minimum wage.
